In the Active Learning track, we will discover how to intentionally design your course to engage and involve your students in the active learning process. We will introduce you to teaching methodologies for creating active and engaging learning environments that help students achieve their learning outcomes. Come prepared to explore a host of ideas, techniques, and technology to transform your teaching practices and guide your students to become active participants in their own learning.

Tiffany Akiyama, M.Ed.

Educational Technologist

Chaminade University Honolulu

Tiffany has taught in higher education since 2010 and has experience in curriculum development and design across different types of instructional methods. Tiffany earned her master's degree in Educational Technology from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and is currently working on obtaining her PhD in Learning Design and Technology at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. As the Educational Technologist at Chaminade’s Center for Teaching and Learning, she supports faculty with the exploration, development, and implementation of innovative educational technologies to enhance their teaching and students' learning. Tennis and traveling keeps Tiffany busy when she is not at Chaminade.

Maegen Walker, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor of Psychology

Kapi‘olani Community College

Maegen earned her Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and has taught in higher education since 2013. Her graduate training focused on understanding the role of attention in sensory integration, learning, and memory processes. Since completing her graduate training, Maegen has focused on applying her understanding of human cognition to develop engaging and student focused curriculum for adult learners in both face-to-face and online settings. Currently, she teaches a variety of courses online and serves as the faculty advisor for the Psychology Club at Kapiʻolani Community College, where she provides active learning and leadership training for her students. Outside of the classroom, Maegen can often be found running or playing at the beach with her Australian Shepard pup, Sasha, who is a never ending source of energy and entertainment.
